Following a positive consultation period, where parents, staff, students, governors and the community were offered the opportunity to express their opinions, the consensus was overwhelmingly in favour of joining Furness Education Trust and the application to join the Trust in April 2023 was approved by the Regional Director before Christmas.

Furness Education Trust currently comprises of four primary schools, Yarlside Academy, Victoria Academy, Newton Village Academy and Parkside Academy and one secondary school Furness Academy. The school is recognised as the school of choice for many, characterised by strong relationships with supportive parents and where pupils and staff are proud of their school.

Simon Laheney, Chief Executive Officer of Furness Education Trust said, “We were pleased when Fiona Doran, headteacher of Lindal and Marton Primary School, approached us to discuss the possibility of their school joining our Trust. We feel that Furness Education Trust is a strong trust that is mature enough to grow and take in more schools to share and deliver the high quality educational services that our current schools receive.  Lindal and Marton brings its own distinct identity to our Trust and expertise that we welcome. They are a proud village school, which supports the community in which it sits, and we look forward to working together to give the best of everything to every child in our schools.

The values of Lindal and Marton closely align with those of our Trust and our schools. All our schools maintain their own identity and character when joining our Trust, but it is important to us that our ethos and values align, so that we are always working together and in collaboration to deliver the best for our young people and our communities. Lindal and Marton clearly places their community and students at the heart of what they do, a shared value across all our Trust schools and we look forward to expanding our Trust community to include Lindal and Marton staff, students and families.

Fiona Doran, headteacher of Lindal and Marton Primary School said “We are a small school with a great and proud community but recognised the significant benefits available to our school through joining a strong multi-academy trust. Joining Furness Education Trust will provide a wealth of support with key non-teaching operations encompassing finance, health and safety, risk management, HR and ensuring the building is maintained and fit for purpose. All of which will enable myself and the teaching staff to focus on school development, raising standards and providing outstanding opportunities and experiences for our pupils. We have shared values with the schools in Furness Education Trust as we all strive to achieve high standards of education and behaviour. Similar to us, they have a passion for sport and promoting pupil well-being through being active and healthy. We have shared development priorities with the primary schools within the Trust which will enable us to work very closely together to achieve them. We are all striving to improve our wider curriculum whilst maintaining the existing high standards in our core subject areas. I also look forward to working in partnership with the headteachers in the Trust who understand that the challenges of leading a small school and I look forward to working in collaboration with them to deliver excellence in all areas for my pupils.”
