Mr Steve Timms

Mr Steve Timms

Steve is the Managing Director of BAE Systems Submarines. With a 40 year career at BAE Systems, Steve previously held the Managing Director post at BAE Systems Naval Shipyards before moving to the Submarines role in Barrow in Furness. Steve has experience working on high profile contracts, with a background in Engineering and Business Management.

Mr Craig Bland

Mr Craig Bland

Craig is a Programme Director at BAE Systems Submarines. He brings leadership, business and programme management skills and experience to the Trust. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. Craig has worked for BAE Systems for 36 years and has held several senior roles across project management, engineering and operations.

Mrs Janet Garner

Mrs Janet Garner

Janet is Principal of the Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge at BAE Systems. Janet joined BAE Systems in 1986, and has a long career in HR focusing on people and skills. Janet brings workforce planning, talent acquisition, organisational effectiveness and learning and development experience to the Trust.

Adam Hearnden

Adam Hearnden

Adam is Nuclear Safety & Security Director at BAE Systems Submarines. Adam is also a Trustee of Cumbria Community Foundation Trust and non-executive Director of a number of companies involved in the development of facilities and infrastructure for front line health services the North West. Adam brings health and safety, infrastructure, quality, risk management and assurance skills to the Trust.

James Brimelow

James Brimelow

James is the Senior Finance Manager for the Astute Programme within BAE Systems Submarines and has responsibility for the financial management of Boats 4-7. Prior to joining BAE Systems in 2017 he worked in Finance at Raytheon and the Ministry of Defence. James brings a number of years of finance and accounting experience to the Trust.

Phil Athersmith

Phil Athersmith

Phil is the Head of Early Careers at BAE Systems Submarines, responsible for the delivery of the Apprentice, Graduate and Undergraduate programmes in Barrow and across the South of England. Proior to this, Phil worked across a range of education providers initially as an Assessor but later becoming an Internal Verifier and Lecturer. Phil brings programme development, planning, and learning development experience to the Trust.

Mark Woodham

Mark Woodham

Mark is Head of IM&T Product Management for Product Fulfilment at BAE Systems Submarines and is responsible for all IT projects and support for the BAE Systems site. Mark joined BAE as a graduate in 1983. He has worked for 20 years now as an IT consultant implementing major IT systems. Mark brings experience in business, leadership, IT and programme and risk management to the Trust.

Graeme Corkill

Graeme Corkill

Graeme was born and raised in Barrow-in-Furness, joining BAE Systems Submarines as an apprentice upon leaving school. He is now a Chief Engineer and has been in the business for 20 years. Graeme is also is a Chartered Engineer. Graeme has experience promoting engineering through STEM activities within local schools Graeme brings experience in STEM, leadership and governance to the Trust.

Stuart Knagg

Stuart Knagg

Stuart is a Senior Operations Manager at BAE Systems Submarines. Stuart joined BAE Systems in 2006, after working in the RAF as an aircraft technician. Working initially as a mechanical fitter, Stuart progressed through several leadership roles, gaining a degree in Strategic Leadership and Management. Stuart brings performance management, policies and procedures and business development experience to the Trust.

Hilary Ellam

Hilary Ellam

Hilary is an education specialist and consultant. Hilary began her career as a Children’s Nurse and created one of the first Children’s Trusts in England. Hilary has worked as a Senior Manager in the Department for Education, delivering grants to schools and educational psychology training. Hilary brings skills and experience in education, children’s health and psychology, educational funding and SEND to the Trust.

John Shields

John Shields

John is an Educational Consultant working within the Early Careers team in BAE Systems Submarines. John taught Chemistry for over 30 years and was a Director of Staffing at Barrow Sixth Form College. He was a member of the College leadership team for 10 years. John brings skills and experience in education, science, quality, governance, leadership and HR to the Trust.

Anne Burns

Anne Burns

Anne has been an elected member of Cumbria County Council since 1985. She is Cumbria County Council’s cabinet member and lead member for Children’s Services. Anne has been a Governor of several schools as her children have progressed through their education. Anne brings skills and experience in education and governance to the Trust Board.

David Kelly

David Kelly

David is an Education Specialist and is the co-author of a Complete Geography for Cambridge IGCSE (OUP), Geography for Cambridge IGCSE Revision Guide (OUP) and Geography for Cambridge International AS and A Level (OUP). He has been a Principal Examiner for Cambridge IGCSE Geography since 2004 and an Examiner for Cambridge International Examinations since 1978. David has 37 years of teaching experience from GCSE to A Level, with five of these years as Principal of Barrow Sixth Form College.

Jayne Moorby

Jayne Moorby

Jayne is Head of Marketing at Oxley Group. Jayne holds a Marketing degree and CIM Post Graduate Diploma and has wide expertise in business management. Jayne is committed to skills development and chairs the Cumbria Cornerstone Careers Group. Named in the UK’s 100 most influential ‘drivers of cultural change’ Jayne champions projects to promote equality and brings community & business knowledge to the Trust.

Jane Dean Wilcock

Jane Dean Wilcock

Jane leads improving business reporting and the business strategy process in BAE Systems. She is a qualified accountant. Jane has been with BAE Systems for 28 years and has held several roles within the finance function. She has also been a Governor for the Sixth Form College in the past. Jane brings skills and experience in finance, business, leadership, governance, quality and corporate responsibility to the Trust Board.

Steve McKinnell

Steve McKinnell

Stephen is a Project Manager at BAE Systems Submarines. He joined BAE Systems in 2013, having previously worked in international development and local government. He is a Chartered Project Professional and holds postgraduate degrees in Business and Management Research and Business Administration. He brings skills and experience in project management, sustainable development and corporate responsibility to the Trust Board.
